Ceylon Biriyani

The Flavour that define Kochi

The Authentic Taste That Stood the Test of Time

Very rarely do some flavours keep tempting our taste buds throughout our lifetime. If you ask the people of Kochi to name a few such flavours, definitely Ceylon Biryani would be one of them. What makes Ceylon Biryani a favourite of Kochites is its authentic flavour that we've been preserving all through our culinary journey. The origin of Ceylon biryani dates back to 1953, when V Ahmed returned to Kochi after his successful business stint in Sri Lanka, the erstwhile Ceylon. His love of good food made him foray into the world of flavours and he started Ceylon Bake House, a restaurant that serves traditional Kerala delicacies, at Broadway, Kochi. Very soon, Ceylon Bake House had turned out to be a favourite destination for authentic flavours in Kochi. And the biryani he served there became popular as Ceylon Biryani.

Our Story

A journey Through time

From Sri Lanka to Broadway — The Making of a Kochi Classic

Before Ceylon Bake House became a beloved name in Kochi, its roots were shaped across the sea in Sri Lanka — then known as Ceylon. It was there that V. Ahmed immersed himself in the island's rich culinary traditions, learning the art of spice layering, slow-cooked flavours, and warm hospitality. The experience left a lasting imprint on his approach to food — an identity he would later bring home to Kerala. With this knowledge and passion, the foundation for a new culinary chapter was set.

Returning to his hometown, the family opened the first Ceylon Bake House at Broadway. What started as a modest eatery quickly became a favourite for its authentic flavours, welcoming ambience, and recipes inspired by the essence of Ceylon.

1980

Under the third generation, the family opened the first Ceylon Bake House at Broadway. What started as a modest eatery quickly became a favourite for its authentic flavours, welcoming ambience, and recipes inspired by the essence of Ceylon.

2005

A new chapter began with modern innovations while preserving traditional recipes. Ceylon Bake House continued to be a cornerstone of Kochi's culinary landscape, blending heritage with contemporary tastes.

1999

The turn of the millennium marked a period of renewal and growth. Ceylon Bake House embraced new opportunities while maintaining the warmth and authenticity that customers had come to love.

Growth Continues…

What followed was steady, thoughtful expansion. Ceylon Bake House extended its presence to Chalikkavattom, Padivattom, Ponnurunni, Vyttila, and Muvattupuzha, bringing its cherished flavours closer to more communities across Kerala.

Each new location carried the same commitment to quality, hygiene, and hospitality.
